Mike will be doing some romote reporting on the next Boattalk, Tuesday July 9, 2013.  He is helping to deliver the Lewis Story, a replica of a Chebacco Boat which were common work boats made here in New England right after the Revolutionary War.  The Story was built by Harold Burnham in Essex, Massachusetts in 1998.  Mike is helping to bring her to Somes Sound for the Mt. Desert Historical Society.  Looks like the weather is going to be a bit on the rainy side and the Story only has a small deck in the front for protection from the elements.  We’ll probably hear about that and more when Mike calls in to Boattalk 10 am 89.9 fm in the Blue Hill area and 99.9 fm Bangor; also streaming on the web at weru.org.  Mt. Desert Island Historical Society for a full listing of events including free sails.
The robots are coming.  Slocum gliders are very interesting unmanned vessels with a variety of applications.  If time permits, we will be discussing them with Mark Baumgarten of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on the June 11, 2013 edition of boattalk.  Here is the link to Mark’s website.  www.dcs.whoi.edu a.s.
The state of the state’s fisheries will be the major topic on the next Boattalk, Tuesday May 14 at 10am Eastern time.  On WERU-fm 89.9 Blue Hill and 99.9 Bangor and streaming live at www.weru.org  We plan to have Senator Denis Damon of Penobscot East, and Paul Anderson of Maine Sea Grant in the studio to talk about our problems with and plans for Maine’s Marine resources.  As always it will be a call-in show, so we hope you will participate also.  In addition we will be talking with David Galinas of Penobscot Bay Pilots about the Heavy Metal Boat Show happening May 18 in Belfast.  Check out Maritime Day Website.
Captain Sonny Perkins will be joining the rusty anchors on the next Boattalk Tuesday April 9 at 10am Eastern time. Â Sonny has worked around the world on various commercial vessels and has the stories to prove it. Â It will be an interesting show for sure. Â a.s.

Tuesday March 12th Boattalk streams live at www.weru.org at 10am EDT starting with a conversation with Phineas Sprague about the Maine Boatbuilder’s Show, which happens on March 15-17. Â Phineas sent the below picture as an example of the “Wall of Fame” they have there. Â It’s a great show with all sorts of things to see and talk about. Â Say hello to Boattalk buddy Havilah Hawkens while your there and ask him about the waterspout picture. Â We will also be talking with Greg Roscoe of Seaworthy Productions about a video about Raw Faith that will be coming out soon. Â And, as usual, it is a call-in show and you never know what might surface. Â a.s.
On our March 12 Boattalk we will be talking with Greg Roscoe of Seaworthy Productions who is putting the finishing touches on a video about Raw Faith which was built by the McKay family downeast to take handicapped children on sea adventures.  It is an interesting story with a sad ending and should be an entertaining discussion.  Tuesday March 12 at 10am Eastern time on WERU-fm 89.9 Blue Hill and 99.9 Bangor, also streaming on the web at www.weru.org  podcast will be available here and at weru.org a day or two after the broadcast.  Greg’s website is seaworthyproductions.com  Â
